Special Processing due to COVID 19
Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory Grades
All grades were posted by the instructor using the A, B, C, D, F grades. Students had the choice to keep the original grade or switch to the S/U grade option by May 31, 2020.
The S/U grade has no effect, positive or negative, on the student's institutional GPA. The option for S/U applied to any full semester, late start, or second mod course.
Satisfactory Grade (S) - Passing
- Typically replaced a grade of C or better. For graduate level courses, education (EDUC) courses, and KINA 497, S grades replaced for a B or better.
Unsatisfactory Grade (U)
- Typically replaced a grade of D or F. The exceptions were graduate level courses, education (EDUC) courses, and KINA 497. For these courses, U grades replaced a C or below.
- Courses with a grade of U are not usable for graduation requirements.
Students were advised, when submitting their S/U request, that choosing the S/U grade is a permanent choice and cannot be reversed at a later date.
Academic Standing and Financial Aid Update
A student's academic standing, financial aid eligibility standing, and CMU scholarship standing were not negatively impacted in the Spring 2020 semester due to COVID 19. This was true whether the student earned an A, B, C, D, F, S, or U grade.
For example, for academic standing:
- A student who started the semester in good academic standing was posted with good academic standing at the end of Spring 2020.
- A student who started the semester on academic probation in Spring 2020 could have improved their standing to good standing, otherwise it stayed as academic probation. No student was moved to academic suspension for the Spring 2020 semester.
